Who should join

This workshop, in conversation with the authors, is intended for people who want to understand all the ins and outs of this new book and to be able to use it in their practice—whether it is to teach it in a class, to discuss it in a reading group, or to apply its framework in a project.

What we focus on

The objective of the workshop is to develop an in-depth understanding of the book to help frame and develop your project:

  • Participate in an in- depth reading of the book
  • Discuss the content as well as all questions and needs for clarification
  • Speak with confidence about the ideas and nuances of the book
  • Develop a clear understanding of how to approach using it in your context

How it unfolds

In each session we delve into one section of the book. Smaller groups decide what issues, questions, or concepts in the book they want to lead a conversation on. Each group has an opportunity to lead in every session. The program looks something like this:

Introduction
  • Who is here?
  • What is the story behind this book?
Foundation
  • Social learning space: definition and significance
  • The perspective of value creation and agency
Four learning modes
  • Generating value: eight value-creation cycles
  • Translating value: flows, loops, and value-creation stories
  • Framing value creation: aspirations and uncertainties
  • Evaluating: accounting for effects and contribution
Reflection
  • What is the significance of this book to your practice?
  • Next steps
